Kroger gives away a free grocery item through its Free Friday Download, usually on the first Friday of the month, a free pint of Kroger ice cream every June, and items that come to $0 with a digital coupon most weeks. It all runs through a free Kroger account with your loyalty card attached, and most Kroger-family stores take part: Ralphs, King Soopers, Fred Meyer, Fry's, Smith's, QFC, Dillons, Mariano's, Pick 'n Save, Food 4 Less and others.

Free Friday Download
Usually the first Friday of the month (sometimes extra Fridays)
A digital coupon for one free grocery item, often a name-brand snack, drink or household product. The item changes each time.
How: Sign in to your Kroger (or Kroger-family store) account in the app or on the website that Friday and load the coupon to your card. It can only be loaded that day, then you have about two weeks to pick up the item, in store or with pickup.

Any week
Products that cost $0 once a digital coupon is applied, mixed in with the regular coupons. Which items, and how many, changes week to week.
How: In the app or on the website, go to Savings, then Digital Coupons, and look for "free" offers. Load them to your card and shop with the same card or phone number; the coupon comes off at checkout.

Mid-June (June 19 in 2026, for the start of summer)
A free pint of Kroger-brand ice cream. In 2026 it was 100,000 pints, first come, first served.
How: Download the single-use coupon on the day, from noon Eastern (in 2026 at FreeKrogerIceCream.com), then redeem it within about two weeks. In 2026 it excluded California, Colorado, Louisiana, Tennessee and Nevada, and QFC stores.
Get the most from Kroger
- Make a free Kroger account and attach your loyalty card (or phone number) before the first Friday of the month: the Free Friday coupon can only be loaded that day.
- Set a phone reminder for Friday; the free item shows up in Digital Coupons once it goes live.
- Shopping at Ralphs, King Soopers, Fred Meyer or another Kroger-family store? Use that store's own app or website; the coupons are the same.
- Free ice cream day in June runs out fast: load the coupon as soon as it opens at noon Eastern.
