Manufacturers Coupons – 5 Types: Couponing 101

These are the coupons that come in the Sunday paper, leaflets or even the ones that you see at Walgreens as you enter the store. You can't find these coupons online and it's usually best if you save the inserts for a sale, rather than clip individual coupons. You could spend hours clipping and you don't need to! So, unless that's your thing, I recommend skipping the painful, tedious clipping process.

I know it's confusing, right? Didn't I just say that Smart Source and Red Plum are sources of printable coupons and then contradict this by saying they only make coupons in print. Both are true! You can find certain Smart Source coupons online and others in print. The same is true with Red Plum and Proctor and Gamble.

You're new to couponing and maybe you don't have a subscription yet? If I can give you one tip it's to call all of ther newpapers in town and negotiate the best rate you possibly can for the Sunday paper only. You don't have to get newspapers daily. You can get a Sunday only subscription and if you don't have a local paper. consider subscribing to the USA Today Sunday Edition. You can also find local newspapers that carry inserts in them.

Hot Tip: You may not need to buy a subscription to a newspaper at all! In some areas, like where I live in San Francisco, I can can subscribe to a local weekly paper that comes on Sundays FREE with a local insert. To find these sorts of papers, do a search for which papers include Red Plum and P&G in your area.

So, what happens if you miss the Sunday paper? No biggie. The internet will save you. You can purchase inserts from online retailers like Coupon Clippers.

Hotter Tip: Even if the manufacturers coupon in question is printed in a Rite-Aid booklet and says Rite-Aid at the top of it, you can use it anywhere. Cashiers might fight you on this one, but as long as the coupon has the words manufacturers coupon printed somewhere on it, you can use the coupon anywhere as long as you use it within the timeframe of the expiration date printed.

Are there any other quality sources for coupons in print besides the Sunday paper? Well, yes and I'm glad you asked. There's a magazine called All You that Walmart carries that has high value coupons that produce free products in combination with sales quite frequently. You can only purchase this magazine at Walmart of subscribe online. You can try out 6 issues for just $1.67 an issue, which is about as cheap as this mag gets.

The coupons that arrive as inserts in the Sunday paper are not the same ones you'll see in printable form online.
