2. Free National Park Days

On a number of days each year, you can get free entrance to some of the most beautiful places on earth. That might not sound that valuable, but at $25-30 depending on the season for a spot like Yosemite, you’ll be glad it’s free!

Free days include:

  • January 18: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • April 16 through 24: National Park Week
  • August 25 through 28: National Park Service Birthday
  • September 24: National Public Lands Day
  • November 11: Veterans Day

You’re stuck in some international location, just got off a train, don’t have wifi or an expensive data plan, so you’re shifting around between notes and the screenshot of the play by play directions provided by Google. Basically, you’re lost. And you don’t even know how to ask for help because you don’t speak the language and you’re not even really sure where you’re going. There’s another way! This guide will teach you in a few quick steps how to search for a location and download the map so that you don’t need wifi when you get there if you go a few steps in the wrong direction. Genius!

FYI: In newer versions of Google Maps, this is just built in! So yay, no more getting lost.

And if all of that fails, you can print free National Geographic maps of any country.

When you’re traveling, it can be damn hard to find the cheapest gas. With this app, GasBuddy, you can not only locate gas that’ll save $5.00-10.00 bucks on a fill up, but you can also do a trip cost estimator. Road trip anyone?

5. Free Stuff in Las Vegas

In the city of lights, glitz, glam, and lots of other things, there is a lot of free stuff to be had. On this adult playground, get endless free shows, entertainment, some free food, crappy casino gifts, etc. Just be sure not to get lost in the gambling part… grab the free stuff and head for the door. Otherwise, that free cup and keychain, not to mention the free show, might not be worth all the cash the burned a hole in your pocket gambling.

6. Last Minute Supplies? Free Prime Membership

I know I’ve had many occasions where I’m frantic, running out of time and need stuff before I fly out – like deet for keeping bests away, a bandana or hat, sunblock, maybe even a new swimsuit top. Who wants to go running around looking for those things once you’ve arrived in your destination. With a free Prime membership, you can get 2-day shipping on tons of stuff on Amazon absolutely free or pay just a few bucks to overnight it or even get it the same day. Boom. Problem solved.

7. Get into Luxury Airport Lounges Free

Interior design photography of the new Centurion Card Member lounge for American Express Card Members shot in Las Vegas Nevada at McCarran Internatinal Airport I’m not embarrassed to admit, I’ve done this at least half a dozen times. You can get in with credit cards, mileage programs, etc., but the easiest way to get into an airport lounge is to ask someone entering if you can be their guest – it doesn’t cost them anything and you’ll get free food, drinks, wifi, newspapers, magazines, and lovely place to rest in between flights.

More than 15 years later, I'm proud that you continue to visit and that I can still help people save money, have fun, and take advantage of the free stuff that companies offer us. Today, I'm still an avid couponer, product sample queen, and deal hunter living in San Francisco, CA.
